Unit 4
It’s 6 pm in Texas, and many of you in the far corners of the world are sound asleep. For you, the 15th came and went, and you got no patterns. I’m 100% responsible for the mishaps. Don’t know my Mac, the new Office software or how to use metafiles. Let’s trump that with five blocks this time! I wanted to learn it all at once, and as usual, I waited until the last few days. Needless to say, I almost drove Gay nuts in the meantime. Now if I can just remember some of the things she taught me until next month. Michael is still rescuing me to upload the patterns on the website. Maybe next month…
The funny part is that my blocks have been done for about 10 days! (Just one problem with them: my turkey left no tracks!) They are really fun to make. Yes, a couple of them are “doozies”, but remember, you only have to make one of each, and all are 9 inches finished.
We thought we’d give you a big dose of blocks this time. For a while it may see-saw like that, few one time, many others. We have until December 31…
It is wonderful for us to see your blocks and read your posts. As teachers, we are so glad you are taking this opportunity to learn new skills. I’m learning a great deal too. Just getting comfortable paper-piecing is a big step for me. When I first saw people doing it, I thought it had to be ‘cheating’ to be so easy and perfect. Now, I’ll just ‘cheat’ and be happy, because it is certainly a very useful way to go.
We hope you find time to stitch a little bit each day. March first will be here before you know it!

Sorry, but I cannot find the patterns. Where are they located???? Saw the pictures of the finished blocks but cannot see where the patterns are located.
The patterns are here:http://www.dearjane.com/just_takes_2.htm
The patterns for January 15 have been removed. You may purchase them from the link on this page “Retired Patterns.”
Don’t forget you’re going to put together one-fourth of your quilt after March 15!
Enjoy!
Now you are dangleing temptation in front of us!!
That’s my job (grin)
Am I the only one who is getting confused about what’s supposed to be happening here? I am finding it very difficult to find the needed blocks, and I thought I had signed up for a newsletter that would alert us to the most recent postings of the new blocks. I haven’t received one yet, and I looked in my spam filter on line too… Perhaps the newsletter was a figment of my imagination? :\
I really love this quilt, the instruction packets are great (concise and easy to follow!!!), but for me the jumping back and forth from one site to another is getting hard to follow. Sorry, but it is.
Thanks for listening,
Lynda
Dear Lynda, all the information you need is at the top of the page under “Basic Information. Once a month, blocks are on Gay’s website, once a month, the blocks are on my website. We will do this every month for the year. We do not send messages to remind you to pick up your blocks. We’re doing well to draft them, make them, and get them to you on time ourselves…we are glad you like the quilt! Soon you will have one-fourth of it to put together!
Thank you so much for the explanation. I truly appreciate your honesty. When a set of JT2 blocks is due,I become like a kid on Christmas Eve, so eager to see the new patterns that I can be obnoxious.
I am looking forward to sewing these five.
Thank you, Ruthie. I value your opinion. So glad you are enjoying the blocks! I will confess..Gay finally made me a video. Now that’s a good friend!
Boy you said it all Ruthie. I am the same way, not taking into consideration the time spent on making us girls happy. Thank you Brenda and Gay. I for one will try and have more patience. When I did see the blocks I thought I had woke from a nightmare.
I can’t wait to get them going. They look hard for me but I WILL get them done. And wait until the 1st patiently.
I will, too, Betty! And I am remiss for not saying “Thank you, Brenda and Gay” while I was writing my note.
Have a great holiday weekend everyone. Happy Birthday to Abe, George, and the others!
Pat E. –THANK YOU BRENDA AND GAY FOR ALL OF YOUR PRECIOUS TIME!!!
I have been busy most of the afternoon cutting out bits and bobs getting ready to assemble the newest blocks. Its reading week and I wish I could attack a research paper with such enthusiasm.
When I click to get the patterns for Feb 15, the pdf page comes up, but there is nothing on it.
I had to wait a minute or so until it came up. It is 14 pages. I am using Internet Explorer.
Been working on Block 17 following the cutting directions for paper piecing. It calls for 16 pieces of white rectangles for the geese. I had to cut more to make it 24.
Also, the 1.5 X 2.25 rectangles for the center were exact cuts and not enough room for error with the paper piecing, so I cut them longer.
Other than that,I have been having a ball working on all 5 blocks today.
Having said all that. I now discover that the original Block 17 pattern had the red and white reversed in the geese. Good thing I haven’t assembled all the parts yet.I will have to redo the geese.
New grand baby born this morning for a total of 2!
I’d like to add my thanks to those of the rest of you. This is such a fun project and I really look forward to the pattern postings twice a month.. I wanted to add that I have the Infinite Variety app on my ipad and I love the fact that you are putting the number of the quilt on each pattern so I can look at and admire the original quilt. Am also looking forward to the book the museum is supposedly going to publish on the exhibit. And now we are all going to have our own personal versions. Thank you so very much.
