The 2013 Just Takes 2™ quilt is a Schoolhouse Quilt. There are 20 blocks in the quilt. Each schoolhouse will have a secondary pieced block for you to sew in the square section of the schoolhouse. The finished size of the quilt with borders is 74″ x 86″.
Blocks of the Month
Twice a month we’ll post instructions (as a digital download) for a block to used in one of your Schoolhouses. All blocks will come with instructions. The Schoolhouse block will be included with Block 1. Instructions for the pieced border will be included with Block 3 so you can work on it while making the rest of your blocks.
Quilters of all skill levels can make this quilt!
On the first day of the month, you will receive a block from Gay at Sentimental Stitches. The second block will be available the 15th of the month on Brenda’s Dear Jane site.
All blocks are free for one month. After that time they can be purchased in the Online Store. Retired blocks are $3.00 each and available as digital downloads.
The patterns are PDF files and you’ll need a program on your computer that can open and display those files. The most common program is Adobe Reader. It’s a free program you can download and use right away. Click on the Get Adobe Reader text and you’ll be directed to their web site.
This quilt can be made in a wide variety of color combinations but it basically Just Takes 2™! Gay will be showing blocks that are red and white. Brenda’s is considering blue and white. We’ve talked about yellow and white, pink and white…. How about black and white? The way the colors are placed you could add a third color in some of the blocks like red, white and blue! If you want to work from your stash – a collection of scraps could easily be used. Go ahead, get creative!
Background fabric – 6 yards
Color #1 (ie. red solid) — 5 yards
Color #2 (ie. lighter red print) – 1 1/2 yards
Add 1 yard for binding (color #1 is suggested).
NOTE: The fabric yardage is calculated by Electric Quilt 7. We have added a generous amount to this estimate. The 2013 Just Takes 2™ Schoolhouse Quilt has three borders. One is pieced and two are not. The majority of the blocks are rotary cut and machine pieced but if you like to do a lot of paper-piecing you’ll need to allow for that.
